The world is calling for bold action. As environmental and social challenges intensify, the need for sustainable solutions has never been more urgent. Yet many organisations struggle to translate good intentions into meaningful change. This is where Project Managers make all the difference.
Project Managers stand at the intersection of strategy, action, and transformation. We serve as the vital link between vision and reality, uniquely positioned to lead the delivery of sustainability goals with measurable results.
“75% of organisations agree sustainability is critical to their mission, but only 20% of project professionals feel ready to deliver these goals.” [Project Management Institute]
This 11-hour, volunteer-led global event is delivered in partnership with the PMI and GPM strategic joint venture and global sustainability champions. We rely on this strong collaboration to make the event a success and amplify our collective impact on the world.
Coinciding with UN International Volunteer Day, the event celebrates the power of volunteering and collective action. Whether as speakers, attendees, or volunteers, together we can accelerate the movement for sustainable project management.
We are also proud to have among the speakers our member Aybüke Aslantaş, responsible of Climate & Sustainability Committee of PMI Southern Italy Chapter. She will be speaking at the event to illustrate the program of activities that our Chapter has developed and will continue to carry out throughout 2026.
The Sustainable Project Manager event is an opportunity to join a global community committed to driving positive change. Join us for a dynamic day of learning, sharing, and action—no matter your role or experience level.
Theme 1: Why Sustainability? Why Now? Why Project Managers?
Explore why project managers are essential to advancing sustainability and what this means for your career, team, and the planet’s future. Learn how global megatrends, organisational expectations, and regulatory pressures make project leaders uniquely positioned to act with urgency and influence.
Theme 2: The Sustainable PM – How?
Discover practical tools and frameworks like Green Project Management and Systems Thinking to deliver sustainable project outcomes. You’ll see how these approaches can be embedded into everyday decisions, helping teams build repeatable, scalable ways of working that create lasting value.
Theme 3: The Sustainable PM – Benefits
Learn about the tangible benefits of sustainable project management including enhanced innovation, resilience, reputation, and long-term success. We’ll show how these benefits strengthen organisations commercially and socially, reinforcing the case for sustainability as a strategic necessity – not a nice-to-have.
